Maine

For the week of the 4th, we went to Boothbay Harbor, Maine. We had gone for a few days last summer and loved it, so Graham and I decided to rent a house for a week this summer. The house we got was perfect...nice inside, right on the water and beautiful screened porch to enjoy the scenery!

We rented a boat for the week so we could just use that to get around which was great. We took the boat to beaches, lunch and dinner spots, into town and just enjoyed it!
C loved the boat while Hayes just wanted to sit with dad while he drove.
Evenings were spent like this.
And a couple nights looked like this! There was a little country store right near us that we boated to and got lobsters brought right off the boat that we cooked for dinner. They were amazing.

When we were in town one day, the girls liked this guy and mom said to get a pic...only occurred to me later how odd it is!
My parents got in town Monday and brought the rain with them. We got rain Monday afternoon and all of Tuesday. By Wednesday afternoon, the sun was out and stayed out the rest of the trip, but we came up with ways to spend the rainy days! Like eating ice cream in town...
And going to the general store to find toys and the candy store for rock candy...
We know a sweet couple who summer there through my dad's college days and Wednesday, they took us on a boat ride to Christmas cove for lunch which was fun. In the afternoon, C and Graham wandered down to our little shore to fish.

And Hayes and Cy-Cy looked for bugs. Hayes is obsessed with bugs...total opposite of C who will cry crocodile tears if a fly so much as flies near her.

While Hayes napped and C rested, this is what I did a lot of...reading amidst the beautiful scenery. I love when I get a chance to pleasure read as that is not often these days!
They have a really fun playground there so we enjoyed that Wednesday afternoon!
And that night we boated to Oliver's for dinner and enjoyed this amazing view...
When we got back, the girls roasted marshmallows...

We were lucky to have a beautiful 4th so we headed to a small private beach we had passed in the boat. The girls enjoyed a morning playing in the sand!

Hayes thought this was really funny so she just laughed and never even turned to face me. Oh well!
Little one was pooped from morning in the sun so conked out on way to lunch!

What rest time looked like for C! I did not want her and H in same room for rest because C may have kept her up, but still needed my chill time so C did this and I read!

With no chance to nap, she passed out hard on the afternoon boat ride!
Then we got to town and she got to get her first chocolate milkshake which she downed in no time!

The fireworks weren't until 9:15 so we knew the girls would miss them so let them do sparklers. That was fun until C's burned to the end and touched her finger. Lesson learned and we held them from then on :)

And after...

Friday we went back to the beach. Hayes just wanted to eat and she wanted shade so Graham made her a tent. Now she is called High Maintenance Hayes. Definitely impressed with Graham's handiwork. Good to know if we get stranded on an island that he has building with branches in him!

That night we went over to the Kite's house for a picnic with their homemade fish chowder they make on a pot right down by the bay. It was so fun and so delicious and a perfect end to the trip! We then enjoyed this view one last night!!
It was a fun week! Always good to be back and get back into routine, but hope we get to go back many more times!
