First Week...

Well this first week with Hayes has had good moments and some not so good ones as well. All our time at home has been great, but we did have a slight scare on Saturday when Hayes had a low temperature and the doctor asked us to take her to the ER. Apparently a low fever in infants can mean the same as a high temp and so protocol is ER, spinal tap and 48 hours in the hospital getting antibiotics as a precaution while they wait on culture results. Hayes was acting totally fine and if we had not gone to the doctor Saturday, we would never have even known she had a low temp. So when we got there and had to go through all of these tests with a 4 day old, we were a little hesitant. She was eating well, her temps at the hospital were good and she was not fussy, but when a doctor is telling you that you need to get this test done because if she has meningitis and we miss it, it would be devastating, you do the tests. They said sometimes the only symptom a newborn will show is through temperature so that is why they have to act on it. Anyways, long story short, after lots of tears, worry, poking and prodding on sweet Hayes, we got the news Monday night that all tests were clear and we were free to go.  We were so relieved and so thankful. And we were so thankful to be home Monday night! We hated leaving poor Carrie again and confusing her even more, but she was a trooper. As was Hayes...by the end she hardly cried over anything! The girls were stronger than their parents, that's for sure :). Anyways, we are so happy to be at home as a family of 4 again! So I thought I would post a few pictures from our time at home this first week.

After her first bath. She cried during her first bath, but when we got home from the hospital and I gave her one, she was happy as a clam...she decided anything was better than life at the hospital!

Every sound Hayes makes gets Carrie so excited!

Play time! Carrie was so excited to get this mat out. She uses it more than Hayes! She also wanted to share her goldfish with Hayes. It is hard to explain to her that Hayes can only have milk.

Everything at home has gone so well. Hayes is an easy baby so far (I think things got harder with Carrie weeks 3 and 4 when she started to wake up more) so I am enjoying the sweet quiet time. Even nights are easy...she wakes up, eats for like 20 minutes and goes right back down for 3 more hours. I am not tired yet, but know it is coming! Carrie loves Hayes so much and always wants to talk to her, about her, sing to her etc which is so sweet. The only thing she really struggles with is when I nurse Hayes. Then she wants me to hold her instead and it is heartbreaking to try to explain to her that I can't. But she is resilient and bounces right back.

We are loving life as a family of 4 and love talking about "the girls" not in reference to the dogs :). Ok off to get a few more things done before everyone is awake!
